Cynthia Sammis, MD

Dr. Sammis is a board certified family doctor who has been practicing in Down East Maine since 1985. She has been happily working for Eastport Health Care since December of 2006. Aside from family medicine she enjoys her dogs, camping, kayaking, cooking and karate. She is a graduate of SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine and the Maine Dartmouth Family Practice Residency.

  • Jenie Smith, MD

 

Dr. Jenie Smith of Nephrology Associates is accepting new nephrology patients and is following up on Dr. Mansoor’s nephrology patients at Eastport Health Care. Dr. Smith comes to Maine from the Midwest. She completed her medical school training at the University of Minnesota, and did her residency training in Minneapolis, where she completed fellowships in Nephrology and in Critical Care. She currently serves on the Maine Medical Association Executive Committee and is currently Chairperson of the Department of Medicine at Central Maine Medical Center. Dr. Nima Moghaddas is a board certified podiatrist that has been employed at EHC since 1994. She joined Eastport Health Care after finishing her residency in Baltimore, MD. She is a graduate of Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Moghaddas grew up in Pittsburg, KS where she received her bachelors in science. She is happily married with two great kids and enjoys her work. She is open to new patients for any podiatric issues, especially Diabetes and wound care.

Daniel Wood, DMD

Born and raised in Idaho, Dr. Wood graduated from High School in '92 and shortly after left and lived abroad for two years learning Spanish.  Returning to Idaho, he attended B.S.U. receiving an associates in Science, and then attended U of O and received his bachelors with a major in Psychology and minor in Chemistry.  He then attended school in Boston at the New England Medical Center; Tufts school of Dental Medicine.   

I believe that oral health is as important as any other form of health care.  It is imperative that children be reached with a positive first impression so as not to create a dental phobic patient that avoids this type of health care.  It is my thought process that a cheerful encounter to improve or begin oral hygiene will lead to improved life long habits and over all health of a person and community

Dr. Abhay Ektare received his B.A. in biology from the University of Colorado-Boulder and went on to earn his D.D.S. at the University of Maryland. Before moving to Maine, he spent three years in a unique mobile practice, providing dental care for children on the Navajo Indian Reservation in northern Arizona. He loves living on the Maine coast and is grateful to have the opportunity to serve the people of Washington county.

Susan M. Drew has been a registered Dental Hygienist in Washington County for the past 29 years having graduated in 1980 from Westbrook College with an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene.  She has worked in various settings ranging from private practice to public health, including administrator of the Washington County Dental Health Program.  Sue loves working with children as well as adults teaching the focus of preventive oral health and its numerous benefits.

Ann O’Brien, PMH-NP

Originally from Vermont, Ms. O’Brien has been residing in Maine for the past 25 years and in Washington County for the past 5 years. She has 25 years experience working in mental health services and the last 17 years in advanced practice psychiatric nursing. Currently Ms. O’Brien practices at our Eastport and Machias offices. She also works part-time for the Calais VA Clinic and is a volunteer at the Washington County Jail on the Board of Visitors.

  • Anne Leaver, LCPC, LADC

Anne practiced frontier mental health treatment in Lake County Colorado as well as substance abuse and mental health treatment in the Baltimore/Washington, DC metro area before settling in Washington County in 2004. She completed a BA in German at the University of Maryland and a MS/CAS in Clinical Pastoral Counseling at Loyola University in Baltimore. Anne practices as an Outpatient Therapist in Machias with a special interest in co-occurring disorder treatment.

Katharine H. Evans, LCSW, ACSW

Ms. Evans has been with the Health Center since 1998, serving as a counselor and psychotherapist at the Eastport site.  She works with adolescents, adults and couples. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech from the University of Oregon, a Masters of Business Administration from Iona College, New York, and a Master’s of Clinical Social Work from Columbia University in New York City.  Ms. Evans is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who brings over 25 years of experience to her practice in Eastport.

  • Tari Murphy, LADC

Tari has 13 years experience in the substance abuse field. She graduated from UMM with a degree in Behavioral Science/Psychology Concentration.  She provides group and individual counseling in Calais and Eastport sites for EHC. She is a licensed alcohol and drug counselor, a certified clinical supervisor and a certified DSAT facilitator. DSAT is a specialized treatment developed for Maine Office of Substance Abuse and Department of Corrections and is offered to Washington County Adult Drug Treatment Court clients, probationers and others who need an intensive long-term program that teaches skills for living a lifestyle which promotes recovery.

  • Patricia Todd-Lewis, MSW, LCSW, CADC

Patricia is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the State of Maine. Patricia provides mental health counseling services for adults, children and families in the Calais Office of EHC, with a special interest in working with adolescents in the juvenile justice system.
Patricia received her undergraduate social work degree from Salem State College in Massachusetts with a minor in psychology; she also has an undergraduate Poli Sci degree from the Univerity of Southern Maine. Patricia's graduate degree in social work is from the University of New England in Portland /Biddeford Maine. Patricia is also a certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor within the State of Maine.

Jan has worked for Eastport Health Care since 2006.  She was previously the Case Manager in our substance abuse treatment program.  Jan grew up in Washington County and received both her Associate and Bachelor degrees from the University of Maine at Machias.  She is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor who is based in our Machias office.
